The recent stir over the DACA, (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), people all over the country are now in constant fear of the repercussions that they might face as a result of their residency standing in the country. The organization is one which provides youth who are undocumented certain privileges that they could enjoy, which are slightly similar to what residents of the United States offer. However, these benefits are only provided to those who meet the guidelines that are laid down by the DACA. The organization only provides this relief for a period of two years and is meant as a way to give these people a slight push while they settle down in their new homes.
The DACA program has done nothing but benefits the country as a whole. A majority of the youth that is coming to the United States through this program are coming for the purpose of education. Universities all over the country are earning millions of dollars as a result of this education, and the country has had a gradual increase in national income as a result of more positions within the country being filled out. The economic growth as a result of this has been evident, which is why this program was seen as greatly beneficial, not just to people coming from other countries, but also to America.
However, the Arizona Attorney General Ken Paxton recently released a letter that was being sent to President Trump, asking for the revocation of the DACA. This was signed by nine different attorneys within the state and also one governor. The letter also stated that if a response was not issued, they would take further legal action. What the drafters of the letter fail to see is that the revocation of this organization can have a gruesome impact on the country that they call home. More than 800,000 people are supported by this organization, who will then be forced to encounter hurdles as a result of the organization being shut down.
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund was one organization that has come forward in support of the DACA to ensure that the privileges that the organization enjoys aren’t revoked, and so that the lives of countless people won’t come to an abrupt halt.
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund initially was founded with the intent of safeguarding people of the Latin American community against Joe Arpaio and people who shared his views and followed in his footsteps. The organization has been instrumental in the trials that Arpaio faced, and the sentence that he was given a few months ago.
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund was started out by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, two prominent members belonging to Phoenix New Times after they encountered a number of injustices at the hands of Arpaio. They were being forcibly held in a prison that was being run by Arpaio because of an article that they had published on him. They filed a suit for the wrongdoings and won a compensatory of three million each, which was then used to start up the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.
